I read the other day that winter this year has been 2.3 degrees warmer than average, although I’m sure it’s actually more. In the mornings, when I check the weather app on my phone, it consistently reports 3-4 degrees higher than the predicted temperature, which is, in itself, 4-5 degrees above what winter usually brings. At the beginning of July, the sun still regularly breaks through, and I can count the days it has rained on one hand.
My creative brain has been restless, it wants an outlet. I’ve been waiting for the dense foggy conditions that can appear as early as March, but I imagine now that we may not see them until the other side of winter, if they arrive at all.
In their absence, I’ve been walking the streets and parklands near my house with my camera, processing a strange sense of uncertainty in a practice that feels more like a reaction than a resolution. I don’t quite know what to do with these images, so for now I’m just allowing myself to document and waiting to see what comes next.
